Stand firm then … and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:14, 15 (NIV)

Just to serve as a reminder, the point of this series is bringing to light some of the methods that Satan and his minions are using against us in our daily lives to take our focus off God.

For those of you who don't know, I'm mildly interested in science fiction. I enjoy everything Star Trek—apart from its current, “politically correct” and feminist centric, iteration whose title I refuse to share. The original show began its television run in 1966. Now, for those of you who live under a rock, it depicts a futuristic space saga with plenty of colorful (literally) aliens, horrific (literally … I mean, the special effects were terrible by today's standards!) monsters and flashy (literally) starship battles. In other words, great fun! What it also depicts is an idyllic Earth centered society in which poverty, selfishness and war (at least on Earth) are a thing of the past. The social structure is framed loosely around the individual's talents and skills. The product of a person's “labor of love” is contributed to society, and then extrapolated to the nth degree for the benefit of all. There is no concept of wealth, class or status. In other words, people do what they enjoy, and they want for nothing, because … well everyone contributes something different, and there's enough diversity of product that all needs are easily met and beyond. I would define this society in today's terms as socialist or possibly even communist, and either of these societal models would, in a perfect world, be … well … idyllic.

I know, at this point — assuming you got this far — you're asking … so what?

I'm glad you asked.

The problem is that the world is full of greedy people. That's why countries that have experimented with these concepts have invariably proved that they just don't work. Even here, in the United States, a lawmaker — who shall remain nameless — tried to introduce a bill that literally stated it would provide a “living wage” for citizens who “refuse to work”. Eventually, this type of ideology collapses (duh!) under its own weight.

One of my favorite things about Star Trek was Mr. Spock. He was the logical half-vulcan (that's an alien), half-human First Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise (that's a starship). The actor who played Mr. Spock was Leonard Nimoy. Do you remember the other TV show that he was in? Okay, yes, Mission Impossible, but I'm talking about the other one. In Search Of … In season 2, episode 23, it was all about the coming ice age. You can still easily find this on Youtube. You might even remember that there were 2 issues of TIME magazine during the 70's that spoke at length about the coming ice age. If you go online today, you'll find all kinds of fake websites touting that these stories were faked. But this is only an attempt to change our history. I was alive back then. I remember the near hysteria that dominated the news cycles, albeit for a short period of time, warning of the impending disaster.

Then came “global warming”.

You know the story. For forty years we've been fed the narrative that the planet is warming because of carbon dioxide, and it's all your fault because you drive cars, eat cows that fart and, oh yeah, you breathe. And the only hope we have to combat this coming catastrophe is for the government — ours and everyone else's — to tax you into the poor house for the money to make everything … well … “green”, or to put it another way, environmentally neutral. That means, while we do everything necessary to make sure that not a single blade of grass is harmed anywhere, we also strive to eliminate any trace that we — mankind — were ever here.

Well, that sounds reasonable doesn't it?

Okay, maybe that was an oversimplification of the situation … but …

They made us change our light bulbs to one's that, if you should break one, you practically have to call in a HAZMAT team to clean it up or everyone in your community will die from mercury poisoning! They're making the car companies produce higher mileage vehicles, hybrids and clean energy vehicles (these are a few … a very few … examples of the good things that are in development. I mean, who doesn't want a cleaner environment?) They've tried to force energy producers who use coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear and even hydro (I just don't get hydro. What's wrong with using running water to spin turbines that produce electricity?) out of business in favor of wind and solar, the least efficient and most expensive forms of energy. Just imagine, they're trying to limit the poorest people in the poorest countries, where they burn human waste to cook their food, to only these types of energy.

Now, I don't know about you, but this sounds absolutely evil to me.

Oh, but they do have a solution for that too. They want to take money from the richest countries — that's us — and give it to those poor people so they can afford the most expensive forms of energy. The only thing is, they aren't efficient enough to offer consistently reliable, affordable power. In other words, those technologies don't work well enough yet. All you need to do is look at Australia, the most “proactive” country on the planet in their quest for “clean” energy. Look at how that's working out for them. They enjoy rolling brown and blackouts, they have to offer incentives like restaurant gift certificates and movie tickets to get their citizens to turn they're A/C off when demand is highest … like when it's 105 degrees outside, and they have skyrocketing electricity bills that have doubled in a single decade.

But hey, when they do finally find a way to power my home with clean, reliable, affordable energy, sign me up too! I want me some a'dat! Till then, it all just sounds like a money grab to me.

Remember:

The thief comes only to steal, to kill and destroy … John 10:10 (NIV)

So, we went from “the coming ice age” to “global warming” — my bad — “climate change” in a figurative blink of an eye. How did that happen? Did they forget about all the science? Did they discover new science that made earlier scientists look like morons?

…and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:10, 15 (NIV)

I know that it's hard to tell, but this is a subject that's near and dear to my heart. So, I knew when I started writing about it, that it would take more than one installment. So, we will revisit this in part 5 of the series. In the meantime, here's your homework. Today is the day. Now is the time. The battle is on!

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
